AIM Professor Mario Cerilles Jr. Selected to Participate in Exclusive Japan Patent Office Intellectual Property Rights Training - AIM Leader

In a remarkable achievement that bridges Asian Intellectual Property (IP) expertise, Professor Mario Cerilles, Jr., MSc, LL.M, has brought distinction to the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) through his selection to the exclusive “Japan Patent Office/Intellectual Property Rights Training Course for Intellectual Property Trainers.” As the Academic Program Director of the Master in International Business Law, Prof. Cerilles Jr.’s participation marks a significant milestone in strengthening international IP education partnerships. The comprehensive program, spanning from 27 August to 02 October 2024, was thoughtfully structured in two phases. The initial online segment ran from 27 August to 06 September 2024, followed by an intensive in-person phase from 24 September to 02 October 2024 at the AOTS Tokyo Kenshu Center (TKC) and Asia-Pacific Industrial Property Center, JIPII. This hybrid format allowed participants to build foundational knowledge while experiencing Japan’s innovative IP ecosystem firsthand.

Prof. Cerilles Jr. joined an elite cohort of 16 thought leaders from 13 countries, creating a rich and diverse source of expertise and fostering cross-cultural dialogue in intellectual property training. This program empowers government officials and university staff to effectively teach and promote IP education in their areas.

The Philippines’ representation was secured through a rigorous selection process led by the Human Resource Management and Development Division (HRMDD) and the Foreign Training Assessment Committee (FTAC) of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). Prof. Cerilles Jr. emerged as one of only two Filipino participants endorsed by IPOPHL and ultimately chosen by JPO, reflecting his exceptional expertise and potential to advance IP education in the country. The knowledge and connections gained through this immersive experience highlight Prof. Cerilles Jr.’s dedication to advancing intellectual property education and global collaboration. By bringing his learning to AIM, he plays a pivotal role in enhancing the Institute’s curriculum and further solidifying its reputation as a leader in international business law and IP education in Southeast Asia.
