March 05, 2020 was the last ‘Halo-Halo’ get-together for AIM Alumni in Malaysia at PAUM KL prior to the Government’s declaration on March 18 the Movement Control Order (MCO) countrywide. This MCO has been extended until April 14. WHO expects Malaysia’s COVID-19 cases to peak in mid-April. If the Government further extended this MCO then Malaysia needs to prepare for economic recession. Even the Registrar of Societies has already issued order that all registered associations must put on hold meetings and assemblies to adhere with social distancing measures until June 30. So, it is incumbent on Malaysians to abide the MCO and ensure it is not further extended.
In reflection, March 05 Halo-Halo event was the opportunity given to me to thank the President, Board and members of the Kelab for endorsing my nomination as one of the seven recipients conferred with AIM Triple A 2020 Awards on February 27 at the Stephen Fuller Hall, AIM Makati. This is the most prestigious recognition awarded to AIM graduates. From the time AIM was established in 1968, only just 151 alumni have been conferred with the Awards out of more than 40,000 graduates worldwide. In Malaysia, only 21 alumnus out of almost 4,000 graduates could be listed as Triple A Awardees of which 15 are still living and within reach. Triple A always stood for the goal of excellence that each alumni member aspires to. I am proud and happy to be in this Roll of Honor in the Hall of Fame of such accomplished and distinguished alumni.
Notwithstanding the enhanced MCO measures, alumni in Malaysia are still in active communication through the various Kelab WhatsApp Groups. I am in close touch with my classmates internationally via our MM-89 WhatsApp Group, Mobile, Email and FB. While practicing social distancing in our communities and having to stay at home, we can now find the time and opportunities to stay connected virtually with one another. All of us are AIM graduates. We received rigorous mental and psychological training. We were taught how to think strategically and to dissect case studies in a manner that sets us apart from our contemporaries. Learning in AIM have shaped our future.
Addressing the Halo-Halo gathering to introduce me as the recipient of AIM Triple A 2020 Award, the Kelab’s President Datuk Pahamin Rejab (we fondly called Pedro), has made the announcement of my appointment as the new Board member responsible for Triple A Malaysia Network and International Affairs as well as Executive Education. I agree to become a Board member because Pedro assured me that I wound NOT be in the hot seat like the time during my tenure as President of Kelab AIM in 2010-15. Of course, the Board is the right avenue to channel our talents as individuals alumni and exercise our power as a management team to lead the Kelab to where it should be.
