On April 20, the AIM Alumni Relations Office successfully hosted an engaging Alumni Hour session, featuring Romualdo “Boyet” Murcia, MBA 2004, Chairman and Managing Partner of P&A Grant Thornton. Held at the ABS-CBN Case Room and streamed live via Zoom, the session brought together students eager to gain insights from one of AIM’s prominent alumni.

A distinguished alumnus, Boyet Murcia’s career is a testament to excellence and perseverance. A CPA topnotcher (1997), he has built over 28 years of experience across audit, tax, and advisory, serving industries ranging from banking and finance to power and technology. His professional journey includes an MBA at AIM, advanced learning at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth (via an exchange program), Wharton Executive Education, and the University of Washington’s Pacific Coast Banking School—reflecting his strong commitment to continuous development. His leadership and impact have earned him recognition as the Most Outstanding CPA in Public Practice (2012) and an Outstanding PICPA Member (2025).

In his talk, Boyet emphasized that career growth is not defined by the number of roles or companies, but by one’s mindset toward learning and consistency. Drawing from his “homegrown” journey at P&A Grant Thornton, he highlighted how organizations that invest in people, mostly professionals who remain committed to growth, create lasting success.

He also shared key leadership transitions, noting that while technical expertise builds credibility, true leadership is defined by the ability to influence, inspire, and make principled decisions. As he put it, “Talent may bring you to the top, but it is character that keeps you there.”
Among the key takeaways from the session:
- Pursue excellence over shortcuts
- Anchor decisions on integrity and fairness, even when difficult
- Commit to lifelong learning, especially in a rapidly evolving landscape
- Build relationships and credibility, particularly in trust-driven industries
- Balance ambition with personal values, health, and purpose

Boyet also reflected on his AIM experience, underscoring how the Institute’s emphasis on critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world application continues to shape his leadership today. He encouraged students to maximize their time at AIM, not just academically, but through building networks and embracing diverse perspectives.
The session concluded with a candid Q&A, where Boyet shared practical advice on career shifts, leadership challenges, and staying grounded amid success, crediting his humility to his roots and strong values.

As Alumni Hour continues to connect students with AIM’s accomplished graduates, Boyet’s story stands as a powerful reminder: success is built on consistency, guided by values, and sustained through continuous learning.

We thank Boyet for generously sharing his AIM journey and the lessons behind his remarkable career with our students.
