Class Notes from Ken Lerona, MIB 2024
A milestone (that is) decades in the making. Yesterday, I was conferred the degree of Master in Innovation and Business by the Asian Institute of Management.
I can hardly believe this is happening—from the farm and public market of Alimodian to the streets of the national capital, and now, to the world! At 40+, I am earning my first master’s degree.
But this milestone is not mine alone. This is for the people and communities behind me. What I have achieved in this academic journey reflects what the people in the countryside have earned, too.
This is for my family, my Ilonggo roots, and the Alimodiananon community I proudly belong to.
I still remember when Prof. Chris Monterola, Head of the AIM Aboitiz School of Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, asked me during my admission interview what I could bring to the program. I told him I wanted to be the voice of innovation in the countryside—to bring the perspectives of my fellow probinsyanos to the boardroom, ensuring they are heard in every life-changing innovation.
As I step into this new chapter, I carry AIM’s motto close to my heart: LEAD. INSPIRE. TRANSFORM.
I will continue to bridge the countryside to the global stage.
I will inspire leadership among the underrepresented and the youth.
I will work to transform communities for better living conditions, especially for the vulnerable.
This journey has not been mine alone. I thank the One Above for His guidance and grace.
To my family—my father, mother, sister, and my brother and his family—your unconditional love made this possible.
To my LT-mates, thank you for your unwavering support. To the Squirten-Go-Go-Go team—Dream, Mae, Andy, Jude, and Ivs—thank you for being such an integral part of this tough but fulfilling journey.
To my Amlig co-founders, Celine, Ivs, and JB, your hard work and commitment mean the world.
To my cohort, thank you for sharing your knowledge, wisdom, and camaraderie. Thank you for all your help and support! I wish you all the best!
To our professors, thank you for your patience, guidance, and for opening so many doors for us.
Maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat!
Madamo gid nga salamat sa inyo tanan!
Duro gid nga salamat kaninyo tanan!
